Marquise Coffee Shop is a modest yet inviting spot tucked into the busy stretch of Aldwych, just steps away from Covent Garden’s lively corners and the Waldorf Hotel. This café fits seamlessly into the daily rhythm of locals and visitors who need a reliable place to pause amid the bustle of central London.

The moment you step inside, the rich scent of freshly ground coffee sets a comforting tone, drawing you toward the counter where expertly crafted lattes and cappuccinos are clearly a point of pride. With the owner known for excellent latte art, the coffee here isn’t just a caffeine fix but also a small visual treat. It’s the kind of place where bold, smooth flavors satisfy anyone serious about their coffee, whether you’re grabbing a quick cup on the go or lingering over a morning brew.

Beyond coffee, the bakery selection deserves a mention—pastries are notably fresh and generously sized, which is a welcome surprise in central London where value can sometimes be elusive. Options like croissants, pain au chocolat, and cheese croutons offer varied textures and tastes, while the banana bread is often singled out for its moist, heartfelt baking that pairs especially well with the rich coffee offerings.

The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, with seating available downstairs to avoid feeling cramped—a helpful feature during busy weekday mornings or quieter afternoon hours. Friendly staff provide a warm and cheerful welcome, making it a comfortable spot for regulars to settle in with a sandwich or a Ferrero Rocher treat alongside their drink.

Marquise suits those who appreciate dependable quality without fuss: whether it’s a mid-morning coffee break, a casual catch-up spot, or a quiet pause before a show or meeting nearby. Early to mid-afternoon visits are excellent if you want to avoid the peak commuter rush but still soak in the steady pulse of this central London neighborhood.

A true hidden gem! The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The coffee itself is bold, smooth, and full of flavor – just the way it should be. But the real star of the show is the banana bread – moist, perfectly balanced, and baked with so much love that you can taste it in every bite. Paired with a cappuccino, it’s simply perfection. The staff are warm and attentive, making you feel like more than just a customer. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee break or looking to relax for a while, this is the kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Highly recommended!”

A cute little coffee shop right next to Waldorf hotel. Cheerful staff, great coffee; that is all you want. Good bakery options as well. Plenty of seating is available downstairs.

BANANA BREAD IS TO DIE FOR An absolute gem of a coffee shop. The coffee is consistently exceptional — rich, smooth, and clearly made with care. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the food. Everything is incredibly fresh and flavourful, with ingredients that taste like they’ve come straight from the market that morning. Whether you're popping in for a quick bite or staying to savour your flat white, it’s the kind of place that instantly becomes your go-to. Highly recommend!

After struggling to find a place that wasn't extremely busy in nearby Covent Garden I stumbled across this little cafe and I'm so glad I did. I had a lot of coffees while in London and this was by far the best, the mince pie bakewell slice was lovely too. The person running it was friendly and it has a small seating area downstairs too which I found very peaceful.
